Year 4 Outdoor Learning

This week we have been testing the soil in our new garden.
What did you find out about the soil in our garden?
Did you find anything that surprised you?
What other factors may we need to consider aswell as the soil?
What plants do you think will grow well in our garden?
Which plants would be good to plant at this time of year?

  1. I thought the hole that our group dug up was a good draining spot .

  2. That's good to know. What else did you notice about the soil? What plants do you think will grow well there?

  3. 1. We got a cup then put little bit of soil and then water after a while we dipped the litmus paper and then it turned light green which meant it was perfect for plants.
    2. I did not find anything surprising but I was excited doing gardening.
    3. The soil should be moist and well drained.
    4. I think we can plant winter pansies because they look colourful in winter.
    5. We could also plant bright coloured tulip that will bloom in spring.

  4. Those are good ideas Riya. I have already bought some bulbs. I will ask Mrs Harman if she can get us some winter pansies. They would look lovely. Do you have any other ideas for the garden?
