Year 2 Investigating bird feeders

To encourage more birds to school we are planning to make our own bird feeders.  We investigated bird feeders around school to give us some ideas. We looked carefully at what the were made of and their properties.

This gave us some ideas of our own.

How will you make your bird feeder? What will you bring to school to help you make it?

Year 2 Bird spotting

As part of the 'RSPB Big School Bird Watch' year 2 have been spotting birds around school.  We collected and recorded the data we found. We had to look carefully at the birds as some were very similar.

While we were bird spotting we were very excited to see a double rainbow.

How many colours can you see in the rainbow?  How did it feel to see the rainbow?  Do you know how the rainbow is made?

Year 2 Describing materials

Using the materials around us we had a great game of bingo.  We matched objects we found to the scientific words we have been learning about.  for example opaque, translucent and synthetic.

1. Can you name a transparent material?
2. Can you name a synthetic material?
3. Can you name a natural material?

Year 2 Marvellous medicines

This term we started developing our descriptive vocabulary by creating and describing our own marvellous medicines inspired by Roald Dahl. we had lots of fun inventing disgusting potions and using creative and scientific words to describe them.

If you made another marvellous medicine what would you put in it?  Can you describe it using the excellent vocabulary we discussed?
