Year 1 - Exploring and planning the garden

This week year 1 had their first outdoor learning session.  They really enjoyed learning what was growing in the garden and searching for signs of spring.  We talked about what plants need to grow well and why it is important to remove any weeds.  

 

 

 

The children counted the daffodil shoots poking out of the ground.

 

 

We dug up the weeds and put them in the compost bin.

  While we were digging we found a few creatures.  We were excited to find this big wiggly worm.

We estimated how long it was and measured it using the ruler.  It was a bit tricky as the worm was not very straight.  Can you see how big the worm was ?

 After exploring the garden we talked about what we would like to grow in it.  We took a vote and create some graphs.

We talked about what each graph showed and read them using the different scales.  Some of the graphs count up in two and some count in fives, so we had to look carefully to read them.
